From Chilled Water (Chillers) to Hot Water (Boilers)

As we settle into the heart of autumn, we approach the time of year that reminds us all to be thankful for what we have. All of us at Campbell, Inc. are especially thankful for our controlled environment. Calling the Midwest home, we know midwestern weather all too well; a climate that is ever-changing. Quickly experiencing every season, it is important for business owners and managers to properly transition from the use of chilled water systems (Chillers) to the use of the hot water systems (Boilers).

The transition from chilled water to hot water is not immediate, users must utilize chilled water at an intermittent pace. The transition from chilled water to hot water is often referred to as shoulder season. It is important to make this change over at the appropriate time.

Once this changeover has been made it is important to “lay-up” the chilled water system properly. If required draining of your system, disinfecting, and cleaning may be necessary to protect from damage. These procedures will help rid the components of excess debris and other unwanted substances that may have found their way into the system.

Following the shutdown and “lay-up” of your system it is important to maintain a proper environment for your system components to avoid bacterial growth and corrosion. This is also a great time to do any repairs, updates, or retrofits to your existing system.
