Ohio School Safety and Security Grant (SSSG) Includes HVAC Improvements

The Ohio BWC has expanded the School Safety and Security Grant (SSSG) to help cover the costs of improvements to heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

The grant news was announced by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in March 2022.

The grant, if approved, provides $15,000 for equipment and services for improvements to indoor heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. This is separate from the $40,000 allotted for traditional SSSG interventions.

This additional funding of $15,000 is available to any qualifying entity under the SSSG program to cover the cost of inspections, assessments, maintenance and improvements to HVAC systems as well as the purchase of other secondary devices to control the spread of airborne contaminants.

The $15,000 HVAC grants are intended to help enhance student and school employee safety and health while at school. The program is available only to Ohio employers that operate licensed preschool through 12th grade educational facilities, have active Ohio workers’ compensation coverage, and maintain continuous active coverage while participating in the program.

A list of qualifying HVAC expenses can be found here (pdf). You can apply for the School Safety & Security Grant-HVAC (SSSG-HVAC) here.
