CHALLENGE
Tenneco is one of the most widely recognized companies in the automotive industry. When the store located in Monroe, Michigan had their chiller suddenly stop working the company knew they had to find a solution quickly so business would not be interrupted. The chiller, original from 1970, was not able to be repaired so they needed new equipment. A replacement was going to be very expensive and was not accounted for in their annual budget.

SOLUTION
The company contacted Campbell to see what their options were. Campbell has strategic partners always looking for quality used equipment that could be used in a situation like this. Campbell was able to locate a used chiller with zero run hours. Another company had purchased it with the wrong voltage so they had just been storing the chiller. Due to Campbell’s discovery they were able to install the new previously purchased chiller. The cost of the entire job, including the labor, was much less than the cost of a brand new chiller.

BENEFIT
Recycling equipment has financial benefits if the equipment can be properly inspected. When evaluating the equipment, Campbell technicians can use their preventive maintenance expertise as a foundation and are able to buy used equipment while ensuring optimal function. Because they know what to look for in used equipment they will only purchase equipment that meets ASHRAE life expectancy of 80-90%. Reusing equipment not only makes financial sense, there is an environmental benefit. Most of the equipment Campbell uses is just being stored until the company can find a way to dispose of it. Reusing it keeps viable equipment out of landfills and junk yards.

“Campbell’s confidence to find and install used equipment allowed us to support the purchase. It’s been working perfectly”
